Cumbria County Council Connecting Cumbria Project Superfast Broadband

CCC's vision is that everyone in Cumbria - every resident, business, organisation and visitor - has access to superfast broadband. We want every house and business in Cumbria to have a choice of Internet Service Provider (ISP) at a cost that is no higher than that paid by consumers anywhere in the country. The ambition is that at least 90 per cent of properties in the county have access to superfast broadband by 2015.

LINDALE VILLAGE PLAYGROUND UPDATE

Thanks to the hard work of local people and the support of various organisations, the Lindale Village Playground Fund has reached the halfway mark in its efforts to completely refurbish the children's play area on Lindale's recreation ground.

Last July saw the first of three phases of new equipment installed on the playground, and the Fund is now halfway towards its target for the second phase, to be installed this summer. The Fund was launched after the majority of the equipment on the playground was removed on health and safety grounds-but thanks to the dedication of everyone involved, Lindale again has somewhere for children to play and exercise. Thank you to everyone who has supported our fundraising so far.

But much hard work remains to be done, and we have a busy year ahead as we seek to complete our fundraising for the second and third phases of equipment. Dates for your diary include Saturday 24 March 2012, when we will be holding a special Pudding Night in Lindale Village Hall, offering the chance to enjoy a range of fabulous home-made desserts and a competition for the evening's best one. A group of Fund supporters will then be walking off the effects of the Pudding Night on the 40-mile Keswick to Barrow walk on Saturday 12 May 2012 and seeking sponsorship in return for their exhaustion. We are also hoping to organise an event in Lindale to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee on Monday 4 June 2012, and a sponsored cross-Bay walk later that month. Another way to support the Fund's efforts is via our 100 Club, which offers the chance to win monthly prizes in return for an annual contribution to the Fund of £10. We are delighted to receive contributions to the Fund, and welcome enquiries from anyone who would like to get involved with our efforts.

The Fund is hugely grateful to generous support in grants and donations from the following local organizations, charities and companies: Allithwaite Upper Parish Council, Booths, Charles Godwin Trust, Cumbria County Council's Grange & Cartmel Neighbourhood Forum, Cumbria Foundation Trust, Furness Building Society, Hadfield Trust, Harold and Alice Bridges Charity, Marsdens Building and Maintenance Contractors, South Lakeland District Council's Local Area Partnership and Community Grant Aid scheme and the Taylor Newton and Hibbert Trust. Allithwaite Upper Parish Council Overview

The Parish of Allithwaite Upper comprises the villages of Lindale, Low and High Newton with a population of 824 according to the 2001 census.

Lindale village is set to the north of Grange-over-Sands on a hill overlooking  Morecambe Bay. Situated close to the A590 and near the River Winster, this small village offers easy access to the Lake District National Park. To the north, lies the villages of Low and High Newton, now by-passed by the busy A590 road to Barrow-in-Furness.

Traditionally a farming community, the Parishes proximity to the A590 road has seen a growth in the number of commuters who live here. It is also a centre for car showrooms. The local tourist boom has largely missed Lindale and Low and High Newton, with nearby Grange-over-Sands developing into a seaside resort and villages to the north and west, such as Windermere, benefiting from their position in the Lake District National Park.

Lindale village has a thriving primary school, two pubs, village shop and a post office. Newton no longer has a school or shop but enjoys a pub in the centre of High Newton.
